Assessments
All treatment services begin with an evaluation to determine a substance use problem. This assessment helps formulate treatment recommendations, as well as to determine the extent and severity of the problem. This will be provided by a qualified, experienced substance use counselor. The assessment duration can last from one to two hours.
Dual Disorder Treatment
Integrated Dual Disorders Treatment (IDDT) is an evidence-based practice designed specifically for individuals with co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders. This treatment approach helps individuals recover by simultaneously offering mental health and addiction services together, in the same setting.
Employment Training/Support/Resources
One challenge facing an individual in the recovery process is securing gainful employment that pays the bills, puts food on the table, and provides purpose, allowing the individual to move ahead in sobriety as a contributing member of society. Through our treatment services and collaborative resource supports, The Cognitive Connection staff work with our consumers in achieving their employment goal that then also strengthens their success in sustaining a recovery oriented life.
Cognitive Behavioral Intervention (CBI)
The Cognitive Connection utilizes the Reasoning and Rehabilitation CBI Curriculum (R&R). R&R is a modified form of cognitive behavioral therapy that directly addresses the thoughts leading to poor decisions/poor behavior. The program aims to help both adult and youth participants re frame these thoughts and alter their behaviors accordingly by teaching them:
-
Lateral thinking, or the ability to address a problem from several angles, one such angle being an attempt to understand another person’s perspective.
-
Social skills, such as basic interaction and conflict resolution skills as well as negotiation skills, assertiveness training, social perspective training, and interpersonal interactions.
-
Values education, which attempts to help individuals develop socially adaptive values.
-
Cognitive and behavioral skills, which consist of the recognition and re framing of potentially poor decision thoughts, the effective processing of information, and the alteration of maladaptive and problematic behaviors.
-
Critical thinking skills.
